The SECRETS of DRAWING, Tricks or Tips #3

Tricks or Tips is a subsection of The SECRETS of DRAWING series. These are bits of informations that couldn’t deserve a Masterclass but worth sharing anyway.

It’s time for another brush trick and share! So, after my notorious Thumb brush and the Francis Manapul’s Fiber abuser brush, I give you my Jim Lee’s discarded tissue brush.

Like the Manapul’s one, that idea is most definitely not a Lee’s invention, but I pick up on it looking at him work. It’s a pochoir technique using a crumbled tissue. Pretty straight forward: Pour some inks (not too much) in a plate, dunk your tissue in it, art away. I saw Jim use it for rocks, energy, foliage with his awesome sense of balance and dynamism.

Of course, you guessed it, I made a digital version by sampling a bunch of tissus stroke and randomizing them. Now Scalable and in any colors (including the very practical white)

Like always, a CSP version on my brush is available in the downloadable contents section for the paying tier.

Here a few application in own work.

For Energy Crackling!
for FIRE, on this guy front head
beside trunks, the trees here are all made using that brush
Some Magic Hight contrast texture.
