Tricks or Tips is a subsection of The SECRETS of DRAWING series. These are bits of informations that couldn’t deserve a Masterclass but worth sharing anyway.
Finger Prints Brush
Ever wanted to plant evidences and frame ME for YOUR horrible crimes? Are you Looking for a cool, flexible texture to transit form black to white or just add a bit of texture? Are you one of my many fans wondered if those marking are Finger prints in my work?
Well, yes, they are indeed. Let’s take a look.
Nothing new here of course, willingly or not, masters have been using their finger prints in their works for eons. That’s Leonard da Vinci finger print right there!
In more recent years, the great Sean Murphy made it a hallmark feature in his works.
So, I wanted in, but chose to dip my fingers in ink only a few times and to create a brush of my own.
The Brush tip is made of a bunch of scanned variations of my thumb. Using it will trigger a randomly selected brush tip to retain some of the accidental, unpredictable nature of thumbprint use with actual inks.
BUT, it being now digital ( yep Double Digital action here ), I can scale it much bigger than my actual finger and change it to any colors on the fly. The brush being set as a Ribbon (in clip studio) will deform it tips with stroke direction.
My own Finger Brush is available for Paid subscriber here. Consider upgrading to get it and more. BTW, That framing me for crime was a joke earlier, right…. RIGHT?
Here's a few examples use case in my work.
As a shader to get a textured mid tone.
I use it the spice up otherwise static solid blacks, like a little mist or a fog. I see there’s a bit of texturing use on Swamp Thing in the back there.
As a Special effect. Here using colors
Or even a actual drawing brush to create shapes.
The Secret of Drawing part 1 and this Tricks or Tips will remain available to all, as a free sample.
