Hey all.
I’m working on finishing up my SECRETS of DRAWING, Light series with a part 2, maybe even a 3rd part. At the end of Part1, those ominous Batman announcements need to be explained thoroughly.
Meanwhile, what is up.
Mid Drawing frontal collision avoided.
Got an interesting cover design close call a few weeks ago. I’ve been asked to draw a piece for my friend Jeff Lemire’s Minor Arcana. The story revolves around this character reluctantly coming back home to her small town and taking over the family business of Psychic. So, I thought having her sitting in a house made of tarot cards would be cool. After studying houses of cards designs, I made my own using in 3d using SketchUp.
And offered this cover concept which Boom was happy with.
As I was about to start drawing the final, this nice upcoming Zatanna cover by Zoe Thorogood popped into my Instagram feed!!
I don't know, it felt too close for comfort at the time, so I got Boom to urgently approve a different concept instead (I'll share it here when they announce it).
Still, what’s you guys thinking. Have I overreacted?
The Way of the Star!
While I’m surveying stuff up, here’s one for science. Not really.
None can escape mastering drawing Stars after decades of drawing Wonder Woman panties. Honestly, I mostly skip building them and just do 1.5.4.3.2.1. But If I need to get a structure in there, I'll do 1.4.2.5.3, any other ways are pure Nonsense, madness even as it probably opens gateways to hell or something ;)!!! The Math say there's 10 different ways of drawing it, which is yours?
2 Dc Covers.
I'll be starting a new Monthly cover run at DC soon, but here's two various piece. Both Drawn and Inked on 13X20 Bristol Board.
Justice league Unlimited #7
I've been asked just a generic trinity shot.
I've haven't drawn Diana nor been colored by Nathan in a while. Felt good.
And one for Scott's Absolute Batman #7
I usually don’t approve of blur effect, but I think Marcelo Maiolo’s take on it was pretty convincing.
The only other time I’ve let this slide was this piece showing Flash Moving faster than hummingbirds!
Marck Shultz Awareness.
Mark Schultz is the Bach of our time.
During his lifetime, Bach wasn't recognized as the Musical God he is today. In fact, there, at the very end of the high baroque era (which Officially end with his death) he wasn't very mainstream. The taste had changed, and the rococo musical style was all the rage. For those that were aware of him, Bach represented the old ways, the over complicated and brainy music. And they were right, of course. Bach was, in many ways, the final artistic statement of the baroque era, encompassing in is style all the greatest masters of the past, pushing that view of music to its upmost transcending limit at a moment where the European musical public had moved on already, looking toward Haydn and the classical style.
Mark is that hidden Uber Master. His work synthetizes all of the greats from a bygone era. Wally Wood, All Williamson, Dave Stevens, Frazetta, Wrightson, Franklin Booth, Alex Raymond, Hal Foster, Burne Hogarth, the EC boys, the classic American illustrators, all of them find their way into his artistic DNA. May the comic public recognize, during his life, his genius and Importance.

Thanks for coming to my TED TALK.
That’s all for now.
Happy Spring. You guys are the best. Share and Subscribe and all that jazz.
I always did stars in 1.5.4.3.2.1. Now, if somebody asks me why, I'm gonna say 'Yanick Paquette does it!'.
Thanks for the Mark Schultz recommendation. I've heard his name pop up in some conversations but never really paid attention to him.
I fully understand why you went with another concept for that cover, man. It's a case of great minds thinking alike, plus the public perception of looking like a biter/plagiarist can weight heavy on your mind, even though you did no such thing. I'm glad you shared this with us.
