Wonder Woman Historia #3 Variant cover
Under the hood and color process ( and a free brush too )
To celebrate the epic Final of Kelly-sue, Phil, Gene and now Nicolas Scott WONDER WOMAN HISTORIA, I’m offering you guys a peek under the hood of my Variant cover for Issue 3.
As cover subject, my fantastic editor Andrea Shae just let me choose amongst all the goddess and Amazons queens intricately established by Phil Jimenez in volume 1. They where all crazy and an obvious flex from Phil! After some considerations and panics, I chose Pythia. And offer this sketch.
Those background goose got discarded at some point (probably laziness?) and I learned Pythia was Asian.
Now, because I couldn’t figure out how the convey all of Pythia’s pearls, iridescences and nacre effect with only black and white, I chose to do my own color as well. But first the ink. Then I color-held the pearls and iridescent structure ( can one just conjugate Color-holding? ).
Then colors.
I felt the transition from my hard black ink to paper white was a bit raw, and this soft pink transition really smoothed think out.
Final touch was adding a bit of Twinkle and shine. Knowing I had a bunch of little reflective elements everywhere, I just, you know, created a brush for it. My very simple Twinkle Spark Brush (in CSP format) is available to download with my other custom brush for paying tier in the download section here!
And there you have it. Fin
