A quick useful shop talk today,
I almost never do mistake (cough*cough*), But if i ever do, or if I need to add some white to cover some inks, I need that juice to be Opaque, to cover, to squash, dominate and bring to it’s knees the black ink bellow! No prisoners , scorched earth and totale eradication.
Hence a LIFE long quest for the perfect whiteout. More specifically white Pen. I mean, I could use a brush and some Titanium acrylique but it’s less practical and amazingly its no guarantee to be opaque at first coating.
The Contenders:
Pen, FIGHT!!
MAGICFLY
I love that pen, gives you a thick and thin pen stroke and the other dual head is a big Marker to cover large area. It’s won’t cover everything in a single pass and you might need 2 or even 3 coating for a nice original art (you could do 1 pass and threshold your bad looking white in post prod after scanning the page obviously) Sadly, The white is sold ONLY with all his brothers HUE, and you have to buy a full set just for the white. I even reached out to MagicFly and asked them if it’s possible to just Buy that white and apparently you can’t.
PRESTO,
A long time favorite of the industry, this thing covers, a bit like a juicy liquid paper. It’s technology is a bit outdated though and it’s thick and hard to control line are pretty rough looking.
POSCA,
I love Posca. I use the Black all the time and the withe to do Splatters (by hitting the open pen with a other pen above a black area, It’s a Mateo Scalera trick, I’ll show you one day) , It give you a nice thick and thin but will require a few coat for full opacity.
FLYSEA Acrylic Painter
It did somehow ok in the competition above , but in practice i found its opacity lacking and the flow inconsistent.
GELLY ROLL
like the Presto, Gelly Roll is , well, a rolling ball pen, but alot smaller than the Presto. So small in fact that I found it being clogged most of the time. If it works once every 3 strokes I’m lucky. Not very opaque either. But of all the contenders, it’s the smallest and more precise for details like a pin light in a eye for exemple.
AKARUED white paint Acrylic pen
THAT’S It, the most covering of them all. A solid unwavering white. Won’t give you too much Thick and Thin but you can trust the flow speed and that everything being lay down will just CRUSH whatever there was before under neat. Upon discovering it, i’ve bought 4 boxes. It comes in a 8 pack at only 12$ cad a pack, Amazon Ca. But somehow i couldn't find a 8 pack of just white in the US but here’s a 6 white plus 2 black for 9$ Amazon US
That’s it Folks, I thought you would want to know.
If you have a personal only grail white pen , please share it in the comments bellow. 😉
You guys are the best . Share and Subscribe and all that. ❤️
Used one of the AKARUED on an acrylic painting recently. It's got really good converage...didn't consider it for comics work though. Thanks.

I don't use white out pens. Never have. Ok, in a pinch I've use a generic white out pen, but 99.9% of the time for corrections I use an electric eraser. I don't like inking over the white paint. It's not working on acrylic glass. I prefer the rough surface the electric eraser leaves. Of course you can only use the eraser a few times before your erase a hole in the paper. For effects and stuff? Pro White or some equivalent. It's water based so I can use it thick or thin. Use it when a pen, brush, or ruling pen.
